This weekend was Mercy Ride route defining weekend! I really hunkered down to inputting some precision daily ride routing into MapMyRide.com. What a task! It took nearly three hours to just get out of California! MapMyRide is great in tracing very specific routes. The downside such exactness is that there are many, many routes to choose from in major metropolitan areas, so routing becomes a matter of minute tracings of paths and roads, sometimes yard by yard.Kudos to the Central California Cycling for their exacting route from San Francisco to Sacramento. Between their map and cross-referencing Google Maps, I stitched together our first two days of riding.
Once we leave Sacramento, we begin to follow the Adventure Cycling Association Western Express route. I mapped through Eureka, Nevada before other activities took priority.
In the coming days I will try to trace at least a couple of routes a day – until I get west of the Mississippi, where the number of route choices will increase and the mapping process will slow. Stay tuned!
I also roughed out our entire trip in Google, split into three stages. That was far easier, though less exacting. The ride is closing in and we’re all getting really excited!
