Pushing pedals, pushing hope

Day 15 – ending in Delores, CO

Getting up at 5am is hard for me. I’m not a morning person, but once on the bike and I start seeing the scenery, I forget about it.
After yesterday’s experience, I was hoping for a better day, and for the most part we got it. The temperature reached 90 degrees, but soon there were clouds and we were granted some relief. There were a few times where we had to watch the weather and wait to see where a few storms were heading.
We crossed into Colorado today. After seeing so much desert in Utah, the first thing we see is amber grain. And YES, it was waiving, one of the coolest things I’ve seen.
The Lizardhead Bike Shop in Delores stayed open after hours to attend to a few of the rider’s bike issues, including mine. The derailer on the pedal crank won’t shift down, so I’ve been manually doing it, which involves kicking the chain in and spinning the pedals backwards. I’m not alway successful. The problem the shop found was that the derailer is broken. It couldn’t be fixed for tomorrow, so I’ll just have to deal with it until Denver. Going through the mountains from here to there should be fun….
