Pushing pedals, pushing hope

Day 38 – July 22 – ending in Hagerstown, MD

Breakfast at Camp

Breakfast at Camp

The day began with some early morning rain and fog, and it was overcast for most of the day.  We stayed on route 30 for most of the day today. Lots more hills to conquer. I got my 5th flat.  A little wire got embedded in the tire.  I couldn’t pull it out, but was fortunate to have had the flat in front of someones (Sean) house.  He had some needle nose pliers which took care of the problem.  He even let us keep the pliers.  We also found another little wire in the outside of the tire just waiting to cause another flat.  All of my flats have been on the back tire, as if the front tire is just there to set the back tire up for failure.

My chain came off a couple times, then the front derailleur failed again, this time stuck in the large ring, which isn’t helpful in the mountains. We ride into DC tomorrow, and hopefully there are limited hills ahead.
